Circumstances of the Accident
Nikki Catsouras and her parents had lunch together on October 31, 2006, in the Ladera Ranch, California, the house where they all lived. After that, her mother Lesli stayed at home while her father Christos Catsouras went to work.
Ten minutes later, Nikki’s mother noticed the Porsche 911, Carrera, that she was not allowed to drive, driven by Christos, reversing out of the driveway. After Lesli phoned him, he started looking for his daughter while driving around.
He mistakenly called 9-1-1 minutes before the crash while doing this and was placed on hold. The dispatcher told him about the accident when he was released off hold.
On the 241 Toll Road in Lake Forest, Nikki was traveling at a high rate of speed when, at around 1:38 pm, she smashed into a Honda Civic while attempting to pass it on the right (160 km). The Porsche crossed the wide middle of the road, which in that part is free of physical barriers, and struck an unmanned concrete toll booth close to the Alton Parkway interchange. The blow quickly killed Nikki. Toxicological tests revealed that she had cocaine indicators but no alcohol signs.
The incident was photographs taken by police got spilled which caused a huge discussion. Aaron Reich and Thomas O’Donnell, two CHP employees, admit sharing the images against company protocol.
While Aaron said that he had transmitted the images to four other persons, Thomas said in interviews that he had only sent them to his email account for further viewing.
